So… read on for some details about the two most common UK visas – the Tier 5 Youth Mobility Visa – and the UK Ancestry Visa!

YOUTH MOBILITY VISA

The Tier 5 Youth Mobility visa is a flexible, multiple entry work permit valid for 2 years (24 months), and is the most common visa for young travellers headed off on a UK working holiday. This visa agreement was designed with young travellers in mind, and is intended to give you freedom and flexibility to work and travel the UK as you see fit (with a few restrictions, of course). To be eligible, you must meet all of the following requirements:

AGE: You must be 18-30 years old on the date of application.

MAINTENANCE FUNDS: You must have the equivalent of £1890 in available cash savings (only required in your account for a few days at the time of application).

NATIONALITY: Open to nationals of Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, and Monaco only.

CLEAN CRIMINAL RECORD: No serious criminal or traffic offences.

NO DEPENDENT CHILDREN: You must have no dependents under the age of 18 years.

HEALTH SURCHARGE: You will be required to pay the UK Health Surcharge – but this will cover your health care costs during your UK stay.

OTHER: You cannot have travelled to the UK at any other time as a working holiday maker or under the Youth Mobility Scheme.

PROOF OF UK ANCESTRY: You must prove that you have a grandparent who was born in the UK (a great-grandparent is not sufficient).

HEALTH SURCHARGE: You will be required to pay the UK Health Surcharge – but this will cover your health care costs during your UK stay.

CLEAN CRIMINAL RECORD: You must not have any serious criminal or traffic offences on your record.

MAINTENANCE FUNDS: You must have the equivalent of £1890 in available cash funds in an account in your name on the date of application.
